State funeral for former MP in Samoa

Samoa's Cabinet has decided to declare next Wednesday a public holiday in honor of the passing of Member of the Council of Deputies Afioga Faumuina Anapapa.

A state funeral for Afioga Faumuina will be held that day.

All flags will be flown at half staff.

Afioga Faumuina died Saturday night at his home in Lepea.

He was 63.

The Samoa Broadcasting Corporation reports that the state funeral will be planned by the cabinet and the National Council of Churches.

Afioga Faumuina was appointed to the Council of Deputies in 2002.

His political career included several terms as the MP for Faleata East and as a cabinet minister.
