Niue cool about Malaysian logging bid

2:05 pm on 27 June 2006

Niue says it won't chase a Malaysian timber company that has expressed interest in starting up a logging project.

A head agreement has been signed and the company has been making assessments.

But no details have been submitted to the Niue government and the logging company has not identified the species or area it might look at logging

The acting Premier of Niue, Fisa Pihigia says they will wait to see what happens:

"We're not going to push for it. It is up to them, if they want to go along and continue on with the arrangement they can come back to government and start sitting down and discuss those area but up 'til now there is now time frame we put on it."
