American Samoans to march in movie protest

7:12 pm on 28 June 2006

Organisers in American Samoa of a peaceful demonstration against the Da Vinci Code movie are expecting a huge turnout tomorrow morning.

The cinema owner was assaulted earlier this month in an apparent bid to thwart the screening of the movie which is is based on a three-year old novel

One of those opposed to the screening, Andy Forsgren, says the March for Jesus is an exercise in faith and democracy and it is a way to counter an attack on the Christian faith.

"We are here to say that there are certain things we shouldn't make a mockery of. I realise these people have to make money on it but I think we have to be responsible citizens and not to erode the basis of our value system."
