Redundancy offer in Tonga expires on Friday

5:26 pm on 28 June 2006

The Tongan government has advised public servants who want to take up the redundancy package that the offer stands only until Friday.

Radio Tonga says according to a reliable source the government has received about 650 letters of agreement from public servants accepting the deal on offer.

The offer has been made to 950 public servants.

Those accepting redundancy will be paid severance pay, leave entitlements, the incentive payment and the 40 percent arrears under the so-called 60-70-80 MOU.

After Friday's deadline, the package on offer is likely to be smaller.
