Technical training qualifications framework for PNG being developed

1:05 pm on 5 July 2006

A steering committee, set up by the Papua New Guinea Education Ministry, to develop a qualifications framework for technical training meets for the first time tomorrow.

The Ministry says the development of an effective technical training system is at the heart of the PNG Education Reform Programme.

It says it is acknowledged worldwide that technical training plays a critical role in reducing poverty and making people more self reliant.

A technical training, or TVET, National Qualifications Framework is expected to nsure acquired skills better match the needs of PNG's industry and its community.

It will also provide clear pathways for schools into technical training and onto higher education.
