Samoa's Police Commissioner says he was shocked to learn that a Samoan police officer had been placed under house arrest in Solomon Islands.

The arrested officer is the Commander of the Samoan police contingent currently serving in the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.

Police Commissioner Papalii Lorenese Neru says he was never informed of the arrest despite an earlier report to his office from RAMSI officials informing him of the officer being questioned about not following military rules.

Papalii says this is about the incident where the officer allowed a Samoan journalist into RAMSI's compound without approval from the authorities.

The Commissioner says he will be able to release further information's about the incident today, when he gets a confirmation of the arrest.

But he says the officers should abide by the rules of RAMSI while serving in the mission there.
