French Polynesian rape conviction may be quashed

A French Polynesian inmate may be released shortly after his stepdaughter retracted her claim that he had raped her.

Olivier Teamo has been in jail for ten months after being sentenced to 14 years in prison.

He had claimed his innocence but lost an appeal case and a higher appeal court then refused to reopen the case.

The news agency Tahitipresse says a commission may be set up to revisit the case after the young woman expressed her remorse in a letter to the prosecutor.
