Fiji Labour Party deputy leader launches fresh attack on party leader

10:04 am on 12 July 2006

The Fiji Labour Party's deputy leader, Poseci Bune, has launched another scathing public attack on its leader, saying Mahendra Chaudhry is making the party an entity of his own.

Mr Bune has told Fiji TV Labour is always preaching democracy, transparency and accountability to the outside world and across the floor of parliament to the SDL.

But, he says, Labour does not practise this within the party and this is where the problem arises.

Mr Bune was referring to the row in the party over the decision by five Labour management board members including himself to oppose Mr Chaudhry's senate list two weeks ago.

Mr Bune says he will not stand by and see the FLP management board be made a rubber stamp for Mr Chaudhry.

Mr Chaudhry has threatened the five with disciplinary action including possible expulsion from the party which would result in them losing their parliamentary seats.

But Mr Bune says they had taken legal advice before opposing Mr Chaudhry's senate list and did nothing wrong.
