A second fire station for Samoa's main island of Upolu, is to be built near the Tuanaimato Sports Complex the main venue of next year's South Pacific Games.
Fire Services picked the location because of its proximity to the new sports facilities at Tuana'imato and easy access to one of the fastest growing residential and industrial zones on Upolu, itele.
New fire stations are also planned in other areas of Upolu and Savaii.
Under changes approved by Cabinet, Fire Services, which is under the Police Department is to become an authority to be called the Samoa Fire Services Authority.
Parliament has yet to approve the change.
