Fiji police are warning business houses to be vigilant amid increasing reports of cyber crime.

Radio Legend says police have revealed that sophisticated criminals are using the internet and latest technologies to intercept phone calls and correspondence between companies to hijack contracts.

It quotes the head of the Police Economic Crime Division, Ravi Narayan, as saying that telecommunications and computer companies are the main targets.

Mr Narayan says police have received reports of theft of data from computers and destruction of data and the interception of business calls between companies resulting in monetary losses.

He says police want to investigate these crimes successfully so it acts as a deterrent to others.
