PNG Gulf Province establishing new fisheries project

Papua New Guinea's Gulf Province and its Governor Chris Haiveta says they are looking at life beyond oil in the region, and have secured an investor to assist in a fisheries project.

Mr Haiveta told the Post Courier that he and his provincial government have engaged the Port Moresby based Kouta Company to enter into a fishing agreement with the local level administrations of East and West Kikori.

He says that will ensure local people there will continue to have money in their pockets after the oil runs out.

The Kikori area benefits from the pipeline running through their area used to export crude oil from the Southern Highlands Province to the Kumul Terminal.
