The Fiji Public Servants Association has called on the government to intervene and settle the strike by nearly 400 academic and administrative staff of the Fiji Institute of Technology.
Radio Fiji quotes the association's general secretary, Rajeshwar Singh, as saying the strike has disrupted the enrolment of students for the next semester which begins next Tuesday.
Mr Singh says the FIT management must stop telling them that they are an autonomous body which has nothing to do with the government.
He says the government gives the FIT a grant of almost 5-million US dollars a year, so they must start negotiating on the legitimate demand of the staff for a Cost Living Adjustment.
Another report says students staying at the FIT hostel in Suva were not provided with any breakfast this morning and are concerned about their dinner.
