French Polynesia adopts budget

6:33 pm on 3 August 2006

The French Polynesian assembly has passed the supplementary budget in a final session that lasted 20 hours.

It approved the budget with 29 of the assembly's 57 members voting for it.

The government led by Oscar Temaru added another 100 million US dollars for the government's operating costs.

It also added nearly 60 million dollars for additional investment.

The opposition alleged that Mr Temaru is trying to get continued backing from outer island members who have crossed the floor to keep his coalition in power.
