Samoa's Ombudsman is to carry out further inquiries into the death of a 25 year old man, whose alleged killer was was acquitted of his murder.

The assistant Ombudsman and chief investigator, Maualaivao Pepe, says the investigation is focused on whether the police investigation into the case was predjudiced because the accused was a former officer.

Earlier this week the attorney general, Brenda Heather Latu, said the prosecution had decided not to proceed with an appeal against the acquittal.

The attorney-general said the appeal point was narrow and the trial of the former officer had been just and fair.
