Tonga prime minister makes late night announcement about King's health

The Prime Minister of Tonga, Dr. Feleti Sevele, says the health of the nations leader, King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV is slowly deteriorating.

Dr. Sevele made the unscheduled announcement at about 11 last night on Radio and TV Tonga.

He said he had just received information from Auckland, NZ, where the King is hospitalised and wished to inform the nation of the situation

The Prime Minister then asked everyone in the Kingdom, to pray for His

Majesty.

Since April this year, the King has been residing in Auckland under the care of his doctors.

During that period he returned briefly to Tonga to celebrate his 88th birthday

on July 4th.

Their Majesties returned to Auckland two days later since when he has been undergoing hospital treatment.
