The two cargo vessels plying the Tinian-Saipan route have been taken out of service by the U.S. Coast Guard.

This has caused a shortage of basic supplies like beverages, milk, and frozen items on the island.

The Saipan Tribune reports the Saipan-based U.S. Coast Guard inspector James Highfill, saying the 50-foot long SN52 was found to have multiple deficiencies.

The other vessel, SN51, was earlier ordered out of service for a similar reason.
