A new threat has emerged that the five Fiji Labour Party dissidents against whom charges were withdrawn yesterday could still face disciplinary action.
The party president, Jokapeci Koroi, and leader Mahendra Chaudhry withdrew their charges against the five in the Suva High Court under pressure of legal action challenging their right to do so.
But the party lawyer and son of Mahendra Chaudhry, Rajendra Chaudhry, has told Radio Legend that the charges were withdrawn without admitting that the party president or secretary did not have the right to lay them
Rajendra Chaudhry says this does not prejudice the right of the FLP's national council to proceed with disciplinary action.
But the lawyer for the five, Hemendra Nagin, says he had asked Justice Roger Coventry to note the undertaking by Mahendra Chaudhry and Mrs Koroi that they would not proceed with disciplinary action against the five.
Mr Nagin says if the two try to push the charges through the back door at the FLP's national council meeting, which takes place tomorrow, they will face renewed legal action.
