Annual meeting between leaders of American and Samoa opens today

The annual meeting between leaders of American Samoa and Samoa opens this afternoon in Pago Pago, with about 40 government officials from the two Samoas in attendance.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi leads the Samoa delegation of about 20 officials including five cabinet ministers as well as the Attorney General and Police Commissioner.

Governor Togiola Tulafono lead the territorial delegation of about 20 officials including several members of his cabinet.

Togiola said this morning that topics American Samoa will put on the table for discussions are mainly on trades and transportation issues, which includes direct flights and shipping service between Pago Pago and Savai'i Island in Samoa.

Togiola said American Samoa will also raise the permit situations between the two governments, and guest worker permits and shopper permits to enter the territory.
