An expatriate businessman in Fiji who owes more than 83-thousand US dollars in unpaid taxes has been banned from leaving the country.

The Daily Post reports that the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority has taken out a Departure Prohibition Order against the man which forbids him from leaving by ships or vessels within Fiji waters or by aircraft within Fiji's airspace.

The Authority took out 34 such orders against business people last year which resulted in the collection of over 25-million US dollars in unpaid taxes.
