The police in Samoa are currently investigating the alleged assault of an inmate at the main Tafa'igata prison by three prison officers.
The police spokesperson, Papali'i Li'o Ta'eu Masipa'u, says the prisoner has received injuries as a result.
The matter was brought to police attention, according to the spokesperson through a letter of complaint by a relative of the inmate.
The police commissioner, Papali'i Lorenese Neru, says he hasn't made a decision over the matter while the inquiry is continuing.
The commissioner says the three officers are still carrying out their duties at the prison.
