Tonga acquits men on disturbance charge

3:09 pm on 25 August 2006

The Nuku'alofa Magistrate Court in Tonga has found six men not guilty on charges of causing disturbance by erecting banners against the kingdom's rulers.

Magistrate Peauafi Pifeleti says the displays were not such that they would be illegal and deemed as causing trouble as defined under the act.

The messages displayed at Pangai Sii were calling for justice and critical of the king's children and the prime minister.
