Transparency International Fiji aims at review of public service disciplining

3:16 pm on 29 August 2006

The Director of Transparency International Fiji, Richard Naidu, would like to see a review of the procedures available to discipline public servants and deal with corruption.

Mr Naidu has told a regional seminar on anti -corruption measures that the local public service commission is unable to effectively take action against civil servants who step out of line.

But he says wider action is needed.

"It's about really looking at the whole problem and setting up a system to deal with the whole problem, not just public service discipline and I'd have to say that probably in the last two or three years, at Transparency International, we have detected an increased commitment on the part of government to do something about it."
