Northwest Airlines has announced that it will add additional night flights each week between Tokyo's Narita Airport and Saipan from the end of the year.
The decision follows an intensive campaign by tourism operators in the CNMI to persuade Japanese travel agents to support Northwest Airline.
The additional flights from Tokyo will start flying December the 17th using Boeing 747 jumbo jets, raising the current three night flights a week to a total of five.
This means an extra 40,000 extra seats per year.
The Saipan Tribune reports the move is being touted as a boost for the CNMI's tourism industry after Japan Airlines pulled out last October.
