The governments of Tonga and Australia have agreed to review a project to establish a new community at Popua, which is close to the Nuku'alofa rubbish dump.
Australia initially gave 190,000 US dollars for the project based on a resettlement plan drawn up two years ago.
But the officer in charge of the project at the Central Planning Department, Winston Halapua, says a review of that initial plan indicates that the work would require a lot more than had been budgetted for.
He says the whole project, which involves considerable landfill and drainage work, will now be looked at again with a view to reallocating funding and prioritising various activities for the new financial year.
