The Saipan Chamber of Commerce in the Comonwealth of the Northern Marianas is calling on the government to solve the current power crisis.

The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation has had rolling blackouts since May due to a crippling lack of finances to buy fuel and repair aging generators.

In his opening remarks in a "Focus on Energy" meeting, Chamber president Charles V. Cepeda said yesterday's business conference, involving energy and financing experts, was meant to help the situation.

He cited that the current crisis has already resulted in business closures and families leaving.

Mr Cepeda said the Chamber is inviting CUC representatives and legislative leaders to its

meeting next week, to discuss what's being done to solve the crisis.
