Cooks Democratic Party vows to fight diabetes

The Democratic Party in the Cook Islands says there are a host of issues the party has included in its manifesto for this month's general election.

The party will officially launch its manifesto this week and a party member, Ken Buchanan, says its anti-party jumping legislation is one thing which is top of the agenda.

However, he says the party does have one issue which it says needs to be addressed immediately.

"Diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and it is going to be a real big problem for this country, not only financially thorough health, you know through people heading off to New Zealand to look for better healthcare."

Ken Buchanan says the pearl industry, education and immigration are also issues included in the party's manifesto.
