Union drops action against New Caledonian weekly paper

New Caledonia's Usoenc union has called on the public to boycott a weekly paper, Les Infos, after accusing it of a lack of media ethics.

The call was made at a news conference called by the union at which it vowed not to stop its publication any more.

In the past two weeks, the weekly was not distributed to vending outlets because of union action.

The union says it is not permissible for the paper to sully the union's and its members' name with false allegations about a labour dispute at a supermarket.

It says while it is for freedom of the press it considered its action as the best way to denounce the practices of some journalists.
