Former Solomons minister views office attack a political act

7:25 pm on 20 September 2006

A former Solomon Islands finance minister Peter Boyers believes an attack on his office in Honiara by up to 40 balaclava-clad men was politically motivated.

Mr Boyers, who is now in opposition, says the raid could have been an attempt to intimidate him as a witness against the two jailed MPs charged with inciting April's riots in Honiara.

Mr Boyers says the attackers chased his security officers out and then proceeded to vandalise his office, stealing items, smashing windows and strewing company files and office equipment about.

Police are investigating the raid.
