Samoa police raid alleged illegal music and film copying operation

9:47 am on 21 September 2006

The police in Samoa are investigating the alleged pirating of local music and foreign movies by a Fijian business-man, married to a local woman.

Assistant Police Commissioner and spokesman, Papali'i Li'o Masipa'u, says many of the machines used by the business-man and his wife to burn CDs and DVDs for copying music and movies have been siezed.

But Papali'i says no criminal charges have been laid against the couple as yet.

The assistant commissioner was reluctant to say if overseas partners of the couple have any close links to the import of foreign movies to be reproduced in Samoa and sold on the black market.
