The deputy leader of the Cook Islands Party, Tupou Faireka, says there's no doubt about his loyalty to the party leader Henry Puna.

Mr Faireka's comments follow an article in the Cook Islands News Daily on Saturday quoting him as saying that CIP aren't totally confident of Mr Puna beating independent Piho Rua to keep the Manihiki seat.

Mr Faireka says he was misquoted and there's in no doubt about where his loyalty lies.

"I have every confidence that Henry is an educated and charismatic in his leadership, and I have every confidence that he will lead the Cook Island Party well in the future."
