Dual voter to be prosecuted by Samoa authorities

10:38 am on 27 September 2006

At least one dual voter will be prosecuted in Samoa after the first by-election held last Friday for Fa'asalele'aga number two constituency.

The Electoral Commissioner, Tanuvasa Isitolo Lemisio, said on television last night that the voter's thumb was already marked with the special ink after he cast his vote, but the same person was spotted by electoral officers in another polling booth trying to cast a second vote.

The Electoral Commissioner will advise the police and the attorney general so that criminal charges can be laid against the voter.
