The New Caledonian Kanak Rheebu Nuu group says it plans a peaceful rally in Noumea tomorrow to show its disapproval with the Goro Nickel project.

The biggest industrial enterprise in the South Pacific is alleged to damage the environment, and Rheebu Nuu activists are demanding a stop to all construction at Goro, saying the the project is illegal.

The group has also sought an injunction in a French court to stop the two-billion US dollar enterprise.

Our correspondent, Tuo Chinula, says Rheebu Nuu supporters intend to march through the streets of Noumea tomorrow.

"They have planned a protest march to take place in Noumea, they are going to go and try and meet government representatives and they are going to meet representatives from the southern province as well as French government representatives at the french High commission. 16"
