The general strike in New Caledonia, called by the CSTNC union at the beginning of last week, is continuing.
The union has several demands, including cheaper living costs, the departure of foreign workers and the resignation of the government.
The union is reportedly blocking the buildings of the SLN mining company in Noumea.
The Goro Nickel company says unionists are still preventing the company ferry from sailing between Noumea and the construction site in the south, forcing the company to drive the workers to the site by bus.
A Goro spokesperson, Catherine Guillaume, says construction work is impacted but is maintained with the about a third of the workers on site.
The union held talks with the government, Goro Nickel, and reportedly the SLN company, but did not come to an agreement.
