American Samoa considers special visas for students of English

The Governor of American Samoa, Togiola Tulafono, has hinted that he might introduce an educational visa specifically to allow non-English speaking students to go to American Samoa to learn English.

The governor, who has just returned from a trade and real estate investment exhibition in Hong Kong, said such a venture would target wealthy students from mainland China and Hong Kong.

He said other countries in the region had done well with this type of programme.

He said the special educational visa would be for six months only and only the student will be allowed in.

A bill to introduce an educational visa was introduced earlier in the year in the House of Representatives but it was never reported out of Committee.
