Sacked Fiji minister considers leaving parliament

Fiji's sacked minister of state for youth and sport, Rajesh Singh, says he is considering resigning from parliament.

But Mr Singh has told Fiji TV that he first has to consult his paramount chief, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, and his Cunningham Open electorate on the northern outskirts of Suva.

Mr Singh has been visiting Ratu Inoke in Suva Prison every week but yesterday he was prevented from doing so by the commissioner of prisons, Aisea Taoka.

He said his superior minister, Ro Teimumu Kepa, had asked him to keep his mouth shut about the accounts for the 2003 South Pacific Games.

Mr Singh said if he did that, he would be breaking the oath of office he took on becoming a minister.

He said he cannot work with people who are not honest and the best option is to resign.
