A senior officer within Papua New Guinea's Department of the Prime Minister has been suspended over the Julian Moti affair.

Mr Moti, who is the suspended Solomon Islands attorney general, escaped from PNG on a PNG military plane.

The Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare confirmed on arrival in Fiji last night for the Pacific Islands Forum that the unnamed officer will remain suspended until the completion of an investigation ordered by him.

He told the Post Courier newspaper that action will be taken against officers found to have broken the laws of Papua New Guinea.

Sir Michael says the PNG government is still waiting to receive official communication from the Australian Government giving reasons for why it suspended ministerial contacts.

He said the government did not conduct its affairs through the media.
