5:53 pm on 27 October 2006

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, has briefed the nine provincial premiers on the latest development on the Julian Moti saga and the stand-off with Australia.

The briefing followed varying opinions among the provincial governments on the future of the Regional Assistance Mission, after threats by the Prime Minister to scale down Australia's role in the Regional Assistance Mission, RAMSI.

His Press Officer says the meeting was to give the provincial leaders an insight into recent happenings on the national level and the Pacific Islands Forum communique on the review of RAMSI.

In the past weeks when the rhetoric was at its peak, seven provinces wanted RAMSI to stay while two on Mr Sogavare's side were for RAMSI to leave.
