Damage from Hawaii's earthquakes this month has been estimated to exceed 200 million U.S. dollars.

A team of University of Hawaii engineers who did the damage assessment also said that building standards designed to protect homes from hurricane damage, helped to limit the damage.

The Honolulu Star reports almost 2,000 homes suffered damages from the magnitude 6.7 quake and aftershocks that occurred on October 15th.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says it has received 668 registrations so far from residents for disaster assistance.
