Samoa McDonald's food outlet criticised for promotion in children's hospital

There has been public criticism in Samoa over the motivation behind McDonald's fast food restaurant decision to build a television room for children at the hospital.

The owner of the fast food restaurant, Hans-Joachim Keil, has defended the move, saying the room is for sick children and their families in the hospital's pediatric ward.

A letter by a woman to the Samoa Observer newspaper expressed shock at seeing the wall of the TV room decorated with McDonald's fast food advertising.

But the General Manager of National Health Services at the hospital Dr Stanley Dean says children are likely to be more interested in toys than in fast food.
