Samoa gets new GSM network

8:18 pm on 1 November 2006

The mobile phone company, Digicel, is to launch a GSM network in Samoa tomorrow

It will mark the first commercial launch of Digicel Pacific Limited's operations in the Pacific.

The launch will see 36 dealer outlets across the country, offering technology which the company says will revolutionise the mobile phone services for its Samoan customers.

Digicel received a GSM licence from the Samoan government in April this year and subsequently acquired Telecom Samoa.

It says all existing customers will receive a free GSM handset while the company is attracting new customers with offers of phones from 33 US dollars, or through other incentives.
