Vanuatu's finance minister Willie Jimmy says the Reserve Bank has set a record amount of earnings from import fees over 8 months, the first such achievement since independence 26 years ago.

The record earnings reflects the confidence of investors who contribute to the country's economic development.

The Daily Post reports the Prime Minister Ham Lini received a government dividend cheque for almost half a million US dollars from the government statutory institution.

The PM said he would like to see some of the dividends spent helping people in rural areas.
