On the eve of the election in American Samoa, the department of public safety has asked for the cooperation of candidates, their supporters and voters to ensure a peaceful and incident free poll.
The criminal intelligence and investigations bureau will provide security at the election office tomorrow and uniformed police will be escorting ballot boxes to the polling booths early tomorrow morning and when they are returned in the evening.
The deputy commissioner of public safety, Mike Fuiava, cautions that with their pro-arrest pro-prosecution policy anyone involved in disturbing the peace will face the possibility of arrest until the next sitting of court.
The DPS is warning store owners, nightclubs and restaurants that the sale of alcohol is absolutely prohibited from 6am to 6pm tomorrow.
Police will be checking throughout the day tomorrow for violators of this law and will have to contend with the Alcohol Beverage Control Board which has the option of suspending or pulling their liquor licences.
