Samoan family fights village ban

10:44 am on 8 November 2006

A Samoan family which rejected a village ban has sought police help after being told their house and possessions would be burnt if they did not leave by 4pm yesterday.

The council's decision was the result of ongoing friction between the family and the village matais concerning the establishing of a new Seventh - day Adventist church in Safa'ato'a village.

But the village Pulenu'u or Mayor, Finau Ufiufi, denies the matais have imposed a ban or ordered the burning of the family's house and their belongings if they disobey the order.

Finau says the council will be making another decision based on a peaceful resolution.
