Former Solomons minister Kile charged with corruption

A former Solomon Islands minister for home affairs, Nelson Kile, has been charged with official corruption and abuse of office.

This follows a 2005 investigation into allegations that he unlawfully granted citizenship to a person who had not been a resident for the required time.

Police allege that Mr Kile directed the Citizenship Commission to approve the application.

The details of the investigation were submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions in April for legal advice.

The advice was acted upon this week when Mr Kile was arrested in Honiara.

He has been granted bail to appear again in the Honiara Magistrates Court on December the 4th.
