The Samoan government has confirm it has appointed a new Attorney General, and the 33-year-old will take up the job next month.

The chief executive officer of the Ministry of the Prime Minister, Auseugaefa Va'asatia Poloma Komiti, says Ming Leung Wai is the youngest lawyer appointed to the top job.

Auseugaefa says Mr Leung Wai replaces Samoan New Zealand-based lawyer, Leuatea Peseta Iosefa, who had been appointed by the government last week.

However, Cabinet this week reconsidered its decision because Leuatea was reportedly convicted of assaulting a debt collector last year.
