Japan has pledged $300,000 US dollars towards the next session of the International Tropical Timber Council, that will be hosted by Papua New Guinea in May.

The funding will cover the costs of interpreters, translators and accommodation of timber council officials attending the session.

The National newspaper reports Japan announced its support after hosting the 41st session of the meeting this month.

PNG's National Forest Service Policy and Aid Coordination director, Dike Kari said that Japan's pledge came after intense negotiations and an assurance of safety.
