Fiji's ambassador to New Zealand, Bal Ram, says small businesses in Fiji will be interested in signing up to a new website aimed at promoting their goods and services.

He says Pacific BizOnline will provide small to medium growers with the opportunity to attract buyers in New Zealand and Australia that they might not otherwise reach.

The low cost service, which has been set up by the New Zealand based Pacific Co-operation Foundation and the Pacific Islands Trade and Investment Commission, is expected to attract businesses in the tourism, agriculture, handicrafts and manufacturing sectors.

Mr Ram says many in the agricultural sector do not have the ability or the funds to be able to market their products so he believes the website will be well supported.

"This website, will, I think, greatly assist these small Pacific Island countries in promoting their products abroad. At the moment, most of these small and medium enterprises do not have the resources or the skills to market abroad. so this will be a great facilitator."

23 businesses signed up to the website, www.Pacificbizonline.com, but hundreds more are expected to take advantage of the low cost service.
