Vanuatu's Minister for Internal Affairs, George Wells, has welcomed the first 30 police recruits for a five-month intensive training program.

The Daily Post reports that the minister praised them for their interest to join the police force and thanked the Australian government for their continuing financial and technical support for the Vanuatu police capacity building project.

The Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant Colonel Lui Patu, says another 30 police will be trained following the first group.

This is the first recruitment by the police in seven years.
