The leader of the Fiji's Opposition is calling on the country's Police Commissioner to immediately stop investigations into the military chief for possible sedition.
There are growing fears Fiji could face its fourth coup in 19 years as Commander Frank Bainimarama, who is at the centre of the coup threats, arrives back in the country today from a family visit to New Zealand.
Fiji's opposition leader Mick Beddoes says the only way to resolve the situation is for the Commodore and the Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase to sit down and talk, but that can't happen while the investigation continues.
"Because all it is doing is waving a red rag in front of a bull, and the bull has 4,000 guns. I am not advocating that we do not follow the rule of law but we have an extreme situation. We are about ready to crash into the brick wall, and in order to avoid that I reckon evasive and extreme measures need to be taken."
Mick Beddoes says it's the citizens of Fiji who are paying the highest price for the unrest.
