The Solomon Islands Labour Division in the Ministry of Commerce, Industries and Employment is carrying out a major programme aiming to improve the country's skilled labour force.

Under the new program, the Labour Division has developed a strategy to speed up work permits for foreign investors to bring in overseas skilled workers.

The Commissioner of Labour, Ronald Unusi, explained that the arrangement would allow locals working with their skilled overseas counterparts to acquire skills and knowledge on the job.

Mr Unusi says they are creating a technical skills enhancement programme which will see locals working with foreigners acquiring on the job training and mentoring which helps locals acquire skills.
